ASKA Philosophy

All children are different and learn in different ways. Some children are petrified of water whereas some are over confident. There is no point in following set lesson plans or schemes of work when teaching children to swim as they all progress at different rates so need individually tailored lessons.

During their initial introduction to swimming we feel it is important that lessons are on a 1-2-1 basis. This gives the pupils the opportunity to become familiar with being in a lesson situation whilst providing the teacher with invaluable time to assess the character and ability of their pupil.

Once our pupils are swimming 5 metres on their front and back with confidence then we will introduce a second swimmer. Through our knowledge of our pupils characters we will be careful to ensure that the move will only push both pupils on. Peer pressure is a powerful tool when it comes to pushing children and at ASKA we strive to use it to it’s full potential.

Once the pair of swimmers have mastered 10 metres confidently and are swimming efficiently showing correct breathing technique on front crawl we will introduce a further swimmer and extend the group size to three. Obviously again we will make sure that there is no clash of personalities and that the extension of the group size has a positive effect on all the swimmers.

Once the group have mastered front and back crawl and are beginning to get to grips with Breaststroke and Butterfly we will introduce a fourth member to further push all swimmers to their potential.

We then work through Stages 5 and 6 skills with our swimmers whilst they master all four strokes to a high standard. It is during these lessons that we will assess their potential to move on to a club style set up.

We hope to be able to offer this set up ourselves very soon!
